Many of today's churches teach and preach about hearing God's voice. They cherry pick scriptures that at first glance seem to support this notion. But upon further contextual reading, it's certainly not the case. They love to teach that prayer is a two way street - talking to God and then listening for His answer. But Jesus didn't teach his disciples anything like that when they asked him to teach them how to pray. Here's a sermon by Justin Peters that really digs in and takes this false notion to task.
